Benign Diseases

Dr. Fragakis answers everything you want to know about Benign Diseases.

The most common benign skin tumors include nevi (moles), cysts, lipomas, sebaceous cysts, xanthelasmas, freckles, papillomas, warts, hyperkeratosis (seborrheic and actinic), and various vascular lesions.

If a mole (nevus) changes color, shape, or size, it is advisable to have it evaluated by a dermatologist specialized in dermoscopy. Additionally, many benign lesions can cause not only aesthetic concerns but also issues that can be addressed by a dermatologist specialized in skin surgery. For example, an abscess may need drainage and appropriate antibiotic treatment, or a cyst may need to be opened and removed.

The method of treatment for a benign lesion—whether surgical laser or excision with a scalpel—depends on the case. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia in sterile conditions at our clinic’s well-equipped surgical facilities.
